The upcoming anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki revealed a new two-and-a-half-minute preview. Studio Drive (Vlad Love) is animating the adaptation of the highly popular manga, with Hiroshi Nagahama (The Reflection) as the director. Uzumaki anime was initially scheduled to premiere in 2021 but was moved to this October before getting delayed once again due to production issues and staff’s desire to deliver a high-quality, product. The new preview is currently region locked, however, the official Twitter account stated that they are working on making it available for everyone.
Production I.G. (USA) and Adult Swim are producing the Uzumaki anime, which is expected to have 4 episodes. The voice cast includes Uki Satake as Kirie Goshima, Shinichiro Miki as Shuichi Saito, Mariya Ise as Azami Kurotami, and Mika Doi voices Yukie Saito. Takashi Matsuyama, Katsutoshi Matsuzaki, Wataru Hatano, Toshio Furukawa, and Ami Fukushima are also voicing characters in the Uzumaki anime.
The manga by Junji was first published in 1998. It consists of 3 volumes, with 19 chapters. Viz Media licensed the manga for the English market.
Uzumaki synopsis:
A mysterious spiral shape, Uzumaki, haunts the small Japanese coastal town. Citizens suddenly become attracted to spiral-shaped objects. Shuichi Saito’s father is one of them. He becomes increasingly obsessed with spirals – snails, whirlpools, as well as decorations on pottery. This by itself isn’t a huge problem, but something more sinister is lurking. When his dead body is found positioned in a spiral shape, the town must prepare for the worst…
