American voice actor Jessie James Grelle revealed that they are the person behind the VTuber Mimcubus, who has been active for over two years. In the official announcement, James states that “living a double life sucks” and that they look forward to sharing more stories of their voice-acting journey. As of this writing, Mim has over 34,000 followers on Twitch and over 35,000 subscribers on YouTube. Mim is canonically a cubus VTuber – meaning they can change into both an incubus and a succubus. Their streams present a positive environment for the LGBTQA+ community. It’s worth noting that Jessie James is transgender (as revealed in March 2023) and uses they/she pronouns.
Jessie James is known for their English dubbing roles as Armin Arlert in Attack on Titan, Itsuki Takeuchi in Initial D, Fumikage Tokoyami in My Hero Academia, Byakuya Togami in Danganronpa, Teruhiko Yukimura in Classroom of the Elite, Nobuchika Ginoza in Psycho-Pass, Glenn Radars in Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, Mao Sadou / Demon King Satan in The Devil Is a Part-Timer! and Yuri Katsuki in Yuri on Ice!!!.
Multiple voice actors have also ventured into VTubing. In 2021, Magic Knight Rayearth voice actress Hekiru Shiina debuted her VTuber model named Hekiru Shiina. Meanwhile, Mayu Iizuka–who has voiced Airi Eniwa in CUE!–revealed that she was the VTuber Yume Kotobuki, and has been doing it for three years. Shu Uchida also revealed her own VTuber model in February 2023.
Over at the English side, voice actress Amanda Lee, who voiced Marin Kitagawa in the English My Dress-Up Darling and Ai Hayasaka in Kaguya-sama: Love is War, debuted her VTuber model named Monarch in December 2021. She later released an album in June 2022 under her VTuber persona titled Rise of the Monarch. Alejandro Saab, who voiced Cyno in Genshin Impact, also has a VTuber named Cy Yu.
