Yongsoo Kim, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global WEBTOON, said the move reflects the platform’s focus on experimenting with new forms of storytelling:

“We know there’s a massive appetite for short-form video among Gen Z. With Video Episodes we’re making webcomics watchable, expanding how fans can enjoy WEBTOON series with a feature that can deepen engagement, help Creators reach more users, and deliver a new medium for amazing stories.”

Creators have also been involved directly in shaping the format. Jessica Ramsden, author of Star Catcher, shared her experience:

“The creative team’s passion and dedication for this innovative project and their eagerness to involve my feedback made this an amazing experience. I loved choosing the voice actors and watching their personalities bring my series to life. I cannot wait for my audience to experience this new video version of Star Catcher.”

With Video Episodes, WEBTOON is looking to capture audiences who increasingly engage with short-form video content, while also giving creators a new way to adapt their work and connect with fans.
