Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) is officially getting a sequel anime, as confirmed in the Hana to Yume magazine on December 19. The manga concluded today after 16 years of serialization.
Yona of the Dawn is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mizuho Kusanagi. It has been serialized in Hakusensha’s shojo manga magazine Hana to Yume since August 2009, with 46 compiled volumes released as of June 2025. It celebrated its 15th anniversary last year with a total circulation of over 14 million copies of its volumes.
The first anime adaptation by Pierrot aired for two consecutive cours from October 2014. Crunchyroll is streaming it, and they describe the story:
Currently, Hiryuu Palace has no one else next in line for the throne other than the fifteen year old princess, Yona, who had been raised with care. Finally, the night of her sixteenth birthday arrives. She expects it to be a wonderful day spent with her peace-loving father, Il, her servant and friend Hak, and her cousin Soo-won, who she had feelings for… However… That night, Yona goes to visit her father to tell him how she really feels, because he opposes to her getting married to Soo-won. However, when she gets to her room, she encounters a shocking truth.
The franchise recently had a musical about the Gathering the Four Dragons arc, which was covered in the first volume. It began showing in Japan in July 2024.
