86 Reasons Why You Should Watch 86 Eighty-Six

69. Has Characters You Will Hate

As many characters there are to love in 86 Eighty-Six, there are definitely characters you will grow to despise. And that’s a good thing because that’s how they are written.

68. Antagonists

Every good story needs at least one good protagonist and one good antagonist. Luckily for viewers, they are many antagonists just as there are protagonists. And the best part? They’re all extremely well-written with shocking development.

67. Side Characters Have Solid Backstories

Usually, side characters get left behind when it comes to backstories. They’re either very brief or just brushed over. However, 86-Eighty Six does an excellent job at telling everyone’s stories. So if you like it when a series actually gives just the right amount of spotlight to side characters, this is a series for you.

66. Lev Aldrecht

You don’t see much of Lev unless a scene takes place at the base because he is the veteran mechanic for the 86. While he may be a side character, you learn something extremely interesting about Lev near the end of cour one!

65. TP The Cat

Yes, a cat. One who never had a set name and is called whatever each individual of the Spearhead Squadron calls him. This may not seem significant whatsoever but the cat becomes a very symbolic gift at one point in the story.

64. Anju

Anju is a member of Spearhead Squadron that all 86 Eighty-Six fans all love. She has a calming nature to her and always keeps a positive attitude despite how bad things get. Someone who really loves her friends. For those who love mother figures in anime, Anju is a character you’ll love.

63. Kurena

The bad-ass girl of Spearhead Squadron. She specializes in long-range fire, specifically snipers, and it is awesome to watch her in action. She has a shy streak to her and everyone teases her because of her love interest in a certain someone. So it keeps her character constantly enjoyable to watch.

62. Kaie

One of the kind-hearted members of the Spearhead Squadron. Kaie is also one of the fan-favorites from cour one and it’s easy to understand why.

61. Theo

The so-called “smart ass” of the Spearhead Squadron has a very short temper but also has a soft side and loves art. Theo is one of those side characters that will grow on you as the series progresses and is one of the core members of the Spearhead Squadron.

60. Raiden

The brawns of the Spearhead Squadron. The type of character some consider a leader and a big brother. One who isn’t afraid to die in battle at any given moment. It’s extremely hard to dislike Raiden, especially knowing he’s incredible in combat, has a sense of humor, and always tries to put his friends on the right path.

59. Internal Conflicts

Internal conflicts in 86 Eighty-Six play a vital role, especially with the two main characters. Whether it’s a lot of characters having a deep hatred for certain people or others refusing to acknowledge certain situations for specific reasons, internal conflicts are consistent throughout the series.

58. External Conflicts

Just as much as there are internal conflicts, there are external conflicts. Everywhere someone is looking, there’s a problem occurring. This is a huge hook for the 86 Eighty-Six series because there is honestly never a dull moment. Sometimes, conflicts will overlap themselves. And that’s when the genius of this series really begins to show.

57. Moments of Realization

There are definitely moments throughout the series when certain characters finally come to realize something extremely important, whether for better or for worse. Yet again, it’s another part of 86 Eighty-Six that hooks you. Then you have a realization yourself and learn how amazing the series is because of it.

56. Dry Humor Moments

Once in a while, some slight comedic moments make their way through the woodwork that is this gruesomely dark series. These moments never disrupt the pace of the series and always seem to be done at the right time.

55. Genius Foreshadowing

This show is so full of foreshadowing that even the opening and ending themes have foreshadowing in them almost every single episode. That’s not even counting the subtle foreshadowing in the series.

54. Subtle Metaphors

Much like foreshadowing, the metaphors used in 86 Eighty-Six are clear as day and when you recognize them you won’t be able to help but smile…or become nervous. It depends on which part of cour one you’re on.

53. There Are No Lows

At no point will you think the show is dragging. Nor will you think some scene is completely unnecessary. 86 Eighty-Six is consistent on every front the entire time you are watching.

52. Light-Hearted Moments

In this war-torn series with a mixture of all the worst things you think humans could do to one another, there are moments during 86-Eighty Six that will undoubtedly make you smile cheek-to-cheek.

51. Will Miss Some Stuff First Time Around

There are so many bits and pieces that end up being important that you might’ve missed before (unless you read the light novels). And that’s a good thing because of number 49 on this list. And when you get it, I guarantee you’ll let out a long “ohhhh!”

50. Symbolism

The amount of symbolism used in 86 Eighty-Six is out of this world. The series could honestly release a picture book of all the symbolism shown in just cour one and I would buy it immediately.
