The preview images for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Episode 1 have been revealed. The episode summary was also unveiled:
Leaving the magical city of Äußerst behind, Freiren, Fern, and Stark travel along the roads of the northern countries. Along the way, they fall into a hole through loose ground. There, they find a patch of “Magic-Nullifying Crystal,” a mineral with the power to nullify magic. Unable to use magic, Freiren and Fern search for a path to the surface, but a monster appears…
Tomoya Kitagawa is directing the sequel, replacing Keiichiro Saito at studio MADHOUSE. Tomohiro Suzuki is in charge of the series composition, with Yuri Fujinaka, Keisuke Kojima, and Maru Takase on character designs. Evan Call is composing the music. The main voice cast for the anime includes:
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Frieren
- Kana Ichinose as Fern
- Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark
- Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel
- Yoji Ueda as Eisen
- Hiroki Tochi as Heiter
Crunchyroll streams the anime, describing the story as follows:
After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends’ dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out.
The first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was runner-up at our 2024 Anime of the Year Awards, narrowly losing out against The Dangers in My Heart Season 2. It also bagged the Best Adaptation, Best Adventure, Best Fantasy, Best Voice Cast, and Best World Building.
