The Drops of God anime was announced on November 21 (JST). True to its oenophile roots, the announcement coincided with the 2025 release of Beaujolais Nouveau.

The manga was written by Shin and Yuko Kibayashi (under the pen name Tadashi Agi) and illustrated by Shu Okimoto. The Drops of God was so influential in the wine world that it caused a sales boom for the wines it featured. Kodansha’s Weekly Morning Magazine serialized the manga from its November 2004 debut until its conclusion in June 2014. The manga was compiled into 44 tankobon volumes. Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto launched two follow-up manga series, Drops of God: Marriage (May 2015–October 2020) and Drops of God deuxième (September 2023-April 2024). Kodansha USA publishes the English version of the manga.

The Drops of God manga received a 2009 Japanese TV drama adaptation (Kami no Shizuku) and a 2023 Apple TV drama, Drops of God, which will have a second season this month. Both series were critically and commercially acclaimed.

Synopsis

Like most people who have something obsessively thrown at them by their parents, Shizuku Kanzaki grew to resent it. But where most kids had to contend with sports and musical instruments, Shizuku’s childhood was filled with wine! As the son of the world-renowned wine critic Yutaka Kanzaki, Shizuku was constantly drilled about the wine. Yet despite his father’s zeal, Shizuku never inherited his passion for wine, and as soon as he could, he became estranged from his old man and the world of wine.

But when his dad passes away, Shizuku finds himself thrown headfirst into the world he hated. The only way he can claim “his” inheritance is to correctly identify the “12 Apostles” of wine and the “Drops of God.” And to make things more complicated, his adoptive brother (whom he didn’t even know he had) is also eligible to claim their father’s estate. And with his adoptive brother being an acclaimed wine critic, can Shizuku rise to the challenge?

Crunchyroll will stream The Drops of God in the Americas, Africa, the EU, the UK, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
