Kozo Shioya, Known for Voicing Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Z, Dies at 71

Kozo Shioya, the longtime Japanese voice actor best known for portraying Majin Buu in the Dragon Ball Z anime, passed away due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Shioya passed away on January 20, according to an announcement made today by his agency, Aoni Production. He was 71, according to the agency’s statement. By Western age counting, he was 70.

Born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1955, Shioya had a long career as both an actor and voice actor across anime, television, and video games. In addition to Majin Buu, his notable roles included Dai-san Kyoeimaru in Nintama Rantaro and characters such as Imagawa Yoshimoto and Zabii in the Sengoku BASARA franchise.

Funeral services were held privately with close family members, in accordance with the wishes of his relatives.
