KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME has introduced a new addition to its roster with the debut of 5-Star [Keystone of Western Japan] Soichiro Hoshina, the older brother of Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina. The update arrived alongside a new limited-time event, Whirlwind from the West, which offers players a new story, exclusive rewards, and more than 1,500 Dimensional Crystals.
Known as the captain of the Japan Defense Force’s Sixth Division, Soichiro is considered one of Western Japan’s strongest officers, serving as a counterpart to Gen Narumi’s reputation in the East. While he is best known for mastering the Hoshina-Style Sword-Slay Technique, the character is also proficient with firearms and joins the game as an Assault Rifle specialist. His arrival includes the new 5-Star weapon AR-6710.
The accompanying Whirlwind from the West event follows Soichiro’s arrival in western Tokyo after the appearance of a new Dimensional Gate within the Third Division’s jurisdiction. After meeting with Captain Mina Ashiro, he heads directly into the crisis.
Players who participate in the event can earn a new Home screen background featured in the story, more than 1,500 Dimensional Crystals, the event-exclusive 4-Star Assault Rifle AR-Egret 12, along with additional rewards and titles.
A character trailer showcasing Soichiro Hoshina was also released alongside the update.
Kaiju No. 8 Background
The game is based on Kaiju No. 8, a manga by Naoya Matsumoto that was serialized on Shonen Jump+ from July 2020 to July 2025. As of September 2025, the series has surpassed 19 million copies in circulation across 16 volumes.
The anime adaptation aired its first season from April to June 2024, followed by a theatrical compilation in March 2025 and a second season that ran through September 2025. A ‘final chapter’ anime adaptation is also in production.
