To Your Eternity Episode 13 — Becoming Stronger

“To Your Eternity” episode 13 is out! As we leave Takunaha behind, a new story arc begins. The best thing about this episode is the emotional, masterful writing and transition. Instead of a filler, we get lore bombs and character growth developments. I really appreciate this, through the heartaches and all. The episode is titled, “Aspiring to Go Higher.” 

“To Your Eternity” episode 13 begins with Fushi grieving for his brother, Gugu. Honestly, the heartache still pains me too. Gugu is gone now, and Fushi can’t help but question why “he is who he is.” After an argument with The Beholder and a surprise reunion with Pioran, Fushi slowly comes to terms with what he must do. 

The path forward is clear — Fushi must become stronger, even if it means following The Beholder’s grand plan. That way, he can protect Pioran and defeat the Knockers. Honestly, I also appreciate the close relationship between Fushi and Pioran in this episode. It’s so heartwarming to see them as family. Plus, Pioran is one silly and adorable grandma.

I’m actually really happy to hear Fushi speaking so well too. He is full of expressions in “To Your Eternity” episode 13 and is even so smart! I can’t help but be proud of his growth. The pair eventually decide to travel for Fushi’s training. Unfortunately, they board a boat for the prison island, Jananda. There, we meet our new interesting characters. Their first impression starts as unlikeable because of the trickery they did. Uh-oh.

Now, Fushi must save himself and Pioran. The story develops into something we never expected — a tournament arc…!? This might actually be a good thing because Fushi will learn how to fight. I honestly didn’t expect a tournament arc. Can you imagine the spectators’ reactions to Fushi’s immortal abilities? The arc trailer was really intriguing so I’m excited to see what happens next. 

The highlight for this episode is definitely Pioran’s emotional support. Her role in this arc is clear — to be Fushi’s companion. The old grandma decides to “give meaning to the little time she has left” by being Fushi’s “walking stick.” It’s a lot of emotional stuff. Despite Fushi’s stubbornness, Pioran stays by his side. It’s a very heartfelt moment, making the weight of the “Don’t die” promise heavier than it really is. 

Plus, Fushi finally recalls the important person he has forgotten — his parent, March.  The idea of a “second death” is what makes Fushi understands his resolve to become strong. He must protect the people (and memories) he holds dear. 

This episode retells the story of what “To Your Eternity” has been conveying— that mortality is fragile, and that life is worth living for (and dying) if it’s for the people we care about. Fushi’s journey shows how people connect and sacrifice, how love grows and stays. How “growing up” is living. These are all things that make a person essentially, human. 

The way “To Your Eternity” episode 13 rolls smoothly is also very comforting. Though bittersweet, its pace is always good. I don’t exactly have the right words to describe it, but it’s definitely what makes this show unique from the others. The writing, visuals, and music — all of it make for a lovely masterpiece, I must say. I’ve never been so emotional and invested in a show before. I really look forward to the next episodes!

“To Your Eternity” episode 14 is titled “Jananda, Island of Freedom” and it will air on Monday, July 19 at 10:50 PM (JST). It will be available to watch on Crunchyroll in select regions. In addition, it is also available to watch for free in Ani-One Asia YouTube Channel.

“To Your Eternity” is an anime adaptation of the manga series written by Yoshitoki Ōima. It follows the story of a mysterious orb sent to Earth. It has no identity nor emotions, but through time it learns to take different forms. One day, it acquires the form of a boy and gains consciousness. The boy, Fushi, sets off to travel in search of new experiences, places, and people. “The journey begins.”
