The videos above feature the movie’s theme song titled Yuke by LiSA (Crossing Field). LiSA is not the only big name on the track, as Ayase of the YOASOBI duo will be composing the music.

Announcement for LiSA’s song

The movie will also be available in IMAX theaters nationwide in Japan. A pre-screening for the movie in IMAX was also held yesterday in Shibuya. After the pre-screening, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Kirito), and Haruka Tomatsu (Asuna) hosted a live stream titled “Virtual Completion Announcement” in Virtual Shibuya. The event took place there, as an ode to the virtual world of the SAO franchise.

LiSA’s return to SAO with the new theme song was also announced in this program. She sang the first SAO opening, Crossing Field, so it is in a way nostalgic that she is once again singing a song for an arc centered around Aincrad.

In addition, according to Mr. Matsuoka and Ms. Tomatsu, the film is meant not only for SAO fans but also those who are only now getting into it. They also said that we must look forward to the new movie’s original character, Mito because she will play an important role.

Lastly, the two of them also spoke about how voicing Kirito and Asuna has affected their lives and careers.

Details

Sword Art Online: Progressive will show the early days of the Aincrad arc but from Asuna’s point of view. It will adapt some parts of the novel’s first chapter. A-1 Pictures (86-Eighty Six-) is producing the movie. Ayako Kono (GATE) is directing.

Sword Art Online: Progressive movie key visual

“There’s no way to beat this game. The only difference is when and where you die…”
One month has passed since Akihiko Kayaba’s deadly game began, and the body count continues to rise. Two thousand players are already dead.
Kirito and Asuna are two very different people, but they both desire to fight alone. Nonetheless, they find themselves drawn together to face challenges from both within and without. Given that the entire virtual world they now live in has been created as a deathtrap, the surviving players of Sword Art Online are starting to get desperate, and desperation makes them dangerous to loners like Kirito and Asuna. As it becomes clear that solitude equals suicide, will the two be able to overcome their differences to find the strength to believe in each other, and in so doing survive?
