Funimation announced that the Fruits Basket -prelude- prequel episode, focusing on Tohru’s parents Kyoko and Katsuya Honda, will get a theatrical release, which will include an epilogue episode focusing on Tohru and Kyo after the series. In addition, there will be a digest of the anime between the two, and it will release in theaters in Japan on February 18, 2022. You can see the key visual:
They also confirmed that the Japanese voice cast from the series will be back. That means Miyuki Sawashiro (Sinon, Kurapika, Celty) will voice Kyoko, while Yoshimasa Hosoya (Reiner, Doppo, Tokoyami) will be back as Katsuya.
The Fruits Basket prequel episode will premiere in about 4 months. Besides her parents, we’ll also see what Kyo and Tohru have been up to since the series! Reminder that the anime’s final season ranked as the best of Spring 2021. That was based on votes from 48,250 people throughout the season! Besides that, Kyo was also voted the best boy of Spring 2021. Tohru placed 2nd on the Best Girl, only behind Vladilena Milize from 86 -Eighty Six-.
