Tatsuya Endo, the author of Spy x Family manga, posted a happy new year illustration with Anya and Bond of the Forger family on Tuesday. The manga creator drew the two of them in Christmas costumes to inform his followers of the new chapter’s release on December 26.
The tweet came with his happy new year message to fans in the caption:
I wish you a happy new year. I’m grateful that the anime adaptation has livened up SPYxFAMILY a lot and a lot more last year. As there will be this and that in 2023, I’m hoping it will be an entertaining year for all of those who support the series. I’d appreciate it if you take it easy to follow my work. Thank you for your support.
As it’s the year of the Usagi (rabbit/hare) in the Japanese zodiac, the visual features Anya and Bond wearing white headbands of the animal’s ears on the heads and making the gesture to imitate the creature. “Thank you for your continued support this year,” the little Esper dressed in peanuts-themed Kimono says in her way. The white canine family member carries on his neck a Shimenawa festoon made of rice straws with the text “New Year.” Behind them is Mount Fuji turning red in the morning grow, which is said to bring good luck.
Tatsuya Endo has been drawing the Spy x Family manga in Shueisha’s online manga service Shonen Jump + since its launch on March 25, 2019. The manga surpassed 26.5 million circulating copies with the 10th volume’s release on October 4. The WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks’ collaborative anime Spy x Family aired from April to June 2022 as the first cour with 12 episodes, and the second cour aired from October to December of the year with a total of 13 episodes. The Spy x Family anime and Anya Forger’s voice actress Atsumi Tanezaki won Yahoo! Japan Search Awards 2022 in the Anime category and the Voice Actor category respectively. The anime will have a TV anime sequel in 2023, as well as an original movie.
Viz Media licensed the manga for English releases and published the newest, 8th volume in September 2022. The 9th volume is scheduled to be released on March 21, 2023. The official website describes the plot of the debut volume as:
