Fujita, the mangaka behind the popular Wotakoi series, launched a new manga titled Villain this month. The manga is available on Ichijinsa’s Comic HOWL manga website.
Villain is based on a song of the same name by Vocaloid producer Teniwoha, which was released in February 2020. The song’s lyrics feature themes of gender dysphoria: the main character has to present as a male in society.
The new manga by Fujita is part of Comic HOWL’s first group theme, which includes vocaloid songs, as well as horror and emotional youth. More comic versions of vocaloid tracks will be made available, including some from popular producers such as DECO*27 and x0o0x.
The manga Masamune-kun no Revenge by Hazuki Takeoka and Tiv is also coming to the online service later in the spring season.
Fujita is known for their work in the manga Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. It was first posted on pixiv in April 2014, then it was published in Comic Pool in 2015. Ichijinsha began publishing the manga in print in April 2015 and ended serialization in July 2021. Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in 2018.
The manga has been adapted into an anime series by A-1 Pictures. It ran from April 13 to June 22, 2018. It received three OVAs, the second one being animated by Lapin Track in February 2021. It also received an anime film adaptation in 2018.
