A Wild Last Boss Appeared! is getting an anime adaptation as announced by the NBCUniversal Japan Anime Industry Panel at the ongoing Anime NYC. A visual featuring the main character Lufas Maphaahl was also released.
Studios Passione and HAYABUSA FILM are teaming up to animate the series under the direction of Akio Kazumi. Kunihiko Okada is doing the series composition while Satsuki Hayasaka will both serve as the character designer and chief animation director. Yasuharu Takanashi is in charge of music production.
“The story is being turned into animation! It sounds so nice. I had hoped it would happen one day, but thought it would be in a distant world. But now, it’s not just a fantasy in my brain that I can’t show to anyone. Rufus and his friends will move, speak in animation and it can be shared with everyone in the real-world! I’m looking forward to that moment. And it is also thanks to all of you who have patiently supported us so that we have been able to come this far. Thank you so much!”
Statement by Firehead, Author of A Wild Last Boss Appeared!
A Wild Last Boss Appeared! (Yasei no Rasu Bosu ga Arawareta!) first began as a web novel by Firehead on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website. It was published there from October 2015 to April 2019 until Earth Star Entertainment acquired the title and published it under its Earth Star Novel imprint. It ran from February 2016 to April 2019 and published a total of 9 volumes. A manga adaptation with Tsubasa Hazuki’s art has been serialized in the Comic Earth Star magazine since June 2017.
J-Novel has licensed both the light novel and manga series in English, with the latter announced in January this year. The plot is described as follows:
Lufas Maphaahl rules the land of Mizgarz with an iron fist. Mankind stands no chance of prevailing against the most powerful being in the world and her army of loyal minions—until a band of heroes bests her in an epic battle, sealing her soul away for all eternity.
But this is just another day in Exgate Online. Lufas is a player’s avatar and a legend among fans. She even outshines the official last boss, the Devil King. So it’s no big deal to the boy behind Lufas when he logs off after his epic defeat—thankfully, it won’t really be eternity until he can play again. But he’s met by a strange offer, and when he accepts, he’s sucked into the game world and awakens…in Lufas’s body!
Two hundred years have passed since Lufas’s defeat, and Mizgarz now lives under the shadow of the Devil King. How will our hero fix his mess? And can he save the world from the one being he never subordinated: the last boss?
NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan panel also included highlights about From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman, How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer, and the second season of Reincarnated as a Sword.
