BONES has announced the formation of BONES FILM, which is its animation production department separated into a new company. Legally named BONES Film Co., Ltd., it began operations today on October 1, 2024.

Masahiko Minami, the representative director of BONES Inc., will also serve as a representative director of the new company, along with Yoshihiro Oyabu. Naoki Amano will also be a director at the BONES FILM animation company.

Studio BONES was founded by staff members from SUNRISE, including Masahiko Minami, Hiroshi Osaka and Toshihiro Kawamoto in October 1998. One of their first projects was collaborating with the studio on the Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door movie.

Since then, the studio has worked on a lot of well-known anime. Some of their projects include No. 6, Wolf’s Rain, Eureka Seven, Soul Eater, Ouran High School Host Club, Fullmetal Alchemist (both the 2003 adaptation and FMA: Brotherhood in 2009), Mob Psycho 100, Space Dandy, Noragami, Bungo Stray Dogs, and My Hero Academia.

Their latest projects are The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies, which finished airing on September 24, and My Hero Academia Season 7, which has 2 episodes left. They are also working on the anime adaptation of GACHIAKUTA, which is set to premiere in 2025.
