Chainsaw Man manga released Volume 19 today in Japan, and it was followed by a special trailer featuring “Ode to Joy” from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. The iconic classical song is heard through the sounds of chainsaws, and you watch the trailer below.
Tatsuki Fujimoto first started the Chainsaw Man manga in 2018, and Part 1 ended in 2020 with a total of 97 chapters and 11 volumes. Part 2 began in July 2022. Viz Media licensed the manga in English. You can see the cover of the latest volume below.
Chainsaw Man got an anime adaptation in Fall 2022, and it ran for a total of 12 episodes. MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka said that the Chainsaw Man anime was a complete financial success. Kenshi Yonezu performed the opening theme song “KICK BACK,” while each episode had a different ending theme song performed by a different artist. A movie focusing on the Reze arc is also currently in production.
Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, and they describe the story:
Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.
One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man”–a man with a devil’s heart.
