The manga series Chi: Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite (Chi: About the Movement of the Earth) is getting an anime adaptation. Studio Madhouse (One Punch Man, Black Lagoon, Death Note) will be in charge of the production.
The announcement was made on the 27th issue of the Weekly Big Comic Spirits. The manga author, Uoto, drew a special illustration to commemorate the announcement:
“I remember well how I used to pass by Madhouse every week when I went to my friend’s house in Nakano a few years ago. At the time, I never dreamed that my series would be animated there. I am deeply moved. I’m looking forward to it.”Statement from Uoto (via Comic Natalie)
Uoto’s manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Weekly Big Comic Spirits from September 2020 to April 2022. It won the first prize at the 26th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2022. It was also recognized in various manga-centric awards, including the Nationwide Bookstore Employees’ Recommended Comics of 2022 and Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 list.
The manga is set in 15th century Poland, where people who believe in the concept of heliocentrism, where the Sun is the center of the universe. Those who believe in said ideology are branded heretics and are burned at the stake.
