CA Soa is aiming to “establish new methods of anime production by combining CyberAgent’s technological expertise with its creative vision.” In their statement, CyberAgent also writes that the Japanese anime market, which hit a record ¥3.3465 trillion in 2023 (up 14.3% year-over-year), is booming, so it is betting big on this growth.

CyberAgent has been involved in anime since 2017 through its CA-Cygames Anime Fund, which focused on investing in anime IPs. In 2024, the company launched its Anime & IP Business Headquarters, centralizing anime production, IP development, advertising, and merchandise planning to build a global strategy.

Masakazu Ogawa, CA Soa’s president, shared his motivation:
“Japanese anime has earned a strong position worldwide, but behind the scenes, there are challenges like reliance on overseas labor and long working hours. Together with creators, I want to tackle these issues and create anime that can stand out on the global stage. CA Soa is here to make that happen.”

CyberAgent says this move is part of its broader goal to drive growth in the anime industry and contribute to its evolution. CyberAgent is also the parent company of Cygames, the Japanese video game development studio, which is in turn the parent company of the animation studio Cygames Pictures. It was recently reported by Toyokeizai that the studio will be animating the popular Kagurabachi manga.
