Demon Lord, Retry R anime is coming to Crunchyroll this fall, and they’ve revealed a new key visual and teaser trailer. Studio GEKKOU is in charge of the animation. The announcement was made at Crunchyroll’s industry panel at Anime Expo 2024.
Kazuomi Koga is directing the anime, Katsuhiko Takayama in charge of the script, and Minori Homura as the character designer and SUPA LOVE composing the music. The anime previously revealed the first visual and new cast.
Kenjiro Tsuda will reprise his role as Hakuto Kunai, while the rest of the cast includes:
- Azumi Waki as Akane Fujisaki
- Momo Asakura as Aku (replacing Kanon Takao)
- Aina Suzuki as Luna Elegant (replacing Kaori Ishihara)
- Iori Noguchi from =LOVE as Eagle (replacing Akari Kito)
- Wataru Komada as Isami Tahara (replacing Tomokazu Seki)
- Minori Suzuki as Mink (replacing Chiyo Ousaki)
- Mirai Tachibana as Organ (replacing M.A.O)
- Kentaro Kumagai as Zero Kirisame (replacing Showtaro Morikubo)
The anime is based on Kurone Kanzaki’s Demon Lord, Retry! (Maou-sama, Retry!) light novel. The novel was originally published under Futabasha’s Monster Bunko imprint with illustrations by Koji Ogata. After three volumes, the novel was moved to M Novels, fully revised and published with new illustrations, this time by Makoto Iino.
A manga adaptation written by Kurone Kanzaki and illustrated by Amaru Minotake was ongoing in Gaugau Monster from 2017 to 2019. The sequel, titled Demon Lord, Retry! R, by the same artist, began in 2020. on the Web Comic Action platform. J-Novel Club licensed both manga and light novel in English, while Crunchyroll describes the story:
Akira Oono finds himself in the world of Infinity Game as the last boss and his favorite character, the Demon Lord Hakuto Kunai. After meeting Aku, Luna, and other friends along the way, the Demon Lord begins a new journey to find a spell that can take him back to the real world. Studio EKACHI EPILKA was in charge of animating the first Demon Lord, Retry! anime, with Hiroshi Kimura as the diretor. It ran for 12 episodes and Crunchyroll is streaming it in select regions.
