Last week’s episode of Fruits Basket: The Final ended on yet another cliffhanger. It’s been an intense season so far, with every episode being more exciting than the last. The Fruits Basket official Japanese Twitter posted the preview images for episode 8 of Fruits Basket: The Final on May 21, 2021. It looks like fans are in for an episode focusing on Kyo and Tohru. The first lot of preview images show Kyo and Tohru having an emotional conversation in the rain. Talk about dramatic! Tohru is crying, while Kyo appears sullen. Last episode ended with the hint that fans may get to see a love confession in this episode. It’s possible that when Tohru confesses her feelings, Kyo could reject her. While Kyo loves Tohru wholeheartedly, he’s resigned himself to the fact that he’ll one day be confined in ‘the Cat’s Place’. On top of this, Kyo clearly has self-esteem issues which stem from his childhood trauma. Both of these things may cause Kyo to rebuff Tohru’s love – out of a sense of protection.
Judging by the other preview images, we’ll also be getting more flashbacks to young Kyo and Tohru’s mom. It will be interesting to learn more about their relationship and why Kyo is suddenly being tormented by images of her death.
Fruits Basket: The Final episode 8 releases on Crunchyroll and Funimation on May 24, 2021. The next episode is ominously titled “I’m Disappointed in You”.
