Gag Manga Biyori, also titled Masuda Kosuke Gekijo: Gag Manga Biyori, received multiple adaptations in the past, the first coming in 2002, which was a short animation by studio Toei Animation. Then it later received its first TV adaptation and sequel by Artland while Studio Deen handled the third, fourth and fifth seasons. The new Gag Manga Biyori anime will be the fifth series in the franchise’s history.
Series 1 (2005), Series 2 (2006), and Series 3 (2008) all aired for 12 episodes each while Gag Manga Biyori+ (2010) aired for 26 episodes.
The anime is based on the manga written and illustrated by Kosuke Masuda. The series first began serialization in January 2000 in Monthly Shonen Jump. It was transferred to Weekly Shonen Jump in 2007 for a couple of weeks due to the former being cancelled. Later that year, the series began publication in Jump Square which is where it has stayed since.
