Intention agency announced that is cutting ties with voice actor Takahiro Sakurai by terminating his contract on March 31, 2023. The agency revealed that Sakurai offered to leave following an investigation into reports made about him and that they respected his decision.
Last September the voice actor revealed that he has been married for almost 20 years to a former voice actress. However, in late October he confirmed allegations of a decade-long extramarital affair and apologized in a statement issued on the agency’s website. His affair partner, who was a producer of his radio show, did not know that he was married. His radio show was subsequently canceled.
Following the revelations, Sakurai canceled his appearance at Jump Festa ’23 Jujutsu Kaisen stage. He voices Suguru Geto in the anime, which is returning this summer. His role in the upcoming Ayaka anime was recast.
Takahiro Sakurai is known as Giyu Tomioka in the Demon Slayer series, Arataka Reigen in Mob Psycho 100, Rohan Kishibe in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, and more. He recently voiced Tsubame Onotsu in the Urusei Yatsura reboot. In 2011, Sakurai won the Male Character Voice Award at Famitsu Awards 2010, and a year later he won the Overseas Fan’s Award at the 6th Seiyu Awards.
