ReoNa is a Japanese singer who’s famous for performing songs from Sword Art Online, Happy Sugar Life, and Shadows House. Furthermore, she’s affiliated with Sacra Music which is a Japanese subsidiary record label of Sony Music Entertainment Japan.
Early Career and Debut Year
Prior to her singing career, Reona invested her time cosplaying. A classmate from her elementary years suggested the hobby which sparked her interest. After she bought a Hatsune Miku costume, her passion for cosplaying flourished even more. With that, she became an active cosplayer in her Junior High years and participated in multiple events. During that time, she went under the names Reopeko and ReoNa.
Cosplaying isn’t the only hobby that ReoNa loves as she’s fond of singing as well. She made her personal YouTube channel in 2016 and uploaded her first cover, Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses. Currently, she has a total of seven beautiful covers up on her channel and a few of them have over a million views.
Moreover, she participated in the 2017 Sacra Music audition and became a finalist. The following year, she made her major debut as the singing voice of the Kanzaki Elsa from Gun Gale Online. She released her very first single entitled “Pilgrim” in April 2018 which is followed by three more singles, “Step Step,” “Independence,” and “Sweet Hurt,” all in the same year. In addition, she also released a mini-album entitled, “Elza” which is the character mini-album for Kanzaki Elsa.
Together with Halca, Spira Spica, and Asca, she performed in Sacra Music Next Break!, which was an event held by Sacra Music to showcase the talents of new artists. ReoNa performed the songs “Oyasumi no Uta,” “Pilgrim,” and “Sweet Hurt”. After that, she held her first solo concert since her debut and opened an official fan club on the day before her 20th Birthday.
The Rise of ReoNa
After her debut year, ReoNa didn’t slack off in the following year because she continued to release three more singles. These are “forget-me-not,” which is the 2nd ending theme of Sword Art Online: Alicization, “Prologue,” and “Null”.
Moreover, she held her first solo tour where she performed in places like Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka. 2019 was also the year when her official YouTube channel was opened and this is where teasers from her singles and albums are uploaded.
Two years after her debut, ReoNa finally released her very first album entitled “unknown”. This album consists of twelve songs and six music videos (music videos are only available in the limited edition). One of the songs included in the album is “ANIMA,” which is the opening theme for Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld Part 2.
In addition, ANIMA, which has over 15 million plays, is her fifth single and her most played song on her Spotify. This is also one of the two of her songs that she performed on THE FIRST TAKE; the other one is “Niji no Kanata ni”. In case you didn’t know, THE FIRST TAKE is a YouTube Channel dedicated to shooting musicians and singers performing in a single take.
Despite being a rough year for the world, 2020 is definitely the year where ReoNa shone the most. Not even halfway through 2021, ReoNa has already released another banger single. Her latest single entitled, “Nainai” is her sixth single and ending theme of Shadows House. In less than a month, the song already has over 2 million views on YouTube. You can read more about her sixth single reaching a milestone here.
ReoNa has been active in the entertainment industry for only three years but she has already shown us what she’s capable of.
