Kaiju No. 8: Narumi’s Week Anime Trailer Revealed, 4 Episodes Starting on September 5

Kaiju No. 8 has revealed new details for its previously announced original short anime Narumi’s Week at Work, confirming a September 5 premiere along with the first trailer. The four-episode series will stream weekly every Saturday on the TOHO animation YouTube channel and other platforms.

The anime was announced alongside with the final arc of the mainline TV anime. Studio Production I.G is animating again, with Studio Khara back in charge of the creature designs. It’s directed by Yutaka Izubuchi, with Mahiro Maeda as the character designer.

Each episode will focus on a different side of Gen Narumi, the captain of the First Division and widely regarded as the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force’s strongest fighter.

The episodes include:

• Episode 1: “The Platoon Leader’s True Feelings”
• Episode 2: “The Vice Captain’s Worries”
• Episode 3: “That Guy From the West”
• Episode 4: “The Bond Between Classmates”

The Kaiju No. 8 manga by Naoya Matsumoto began serialization in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform. The manga series officially ended in July with Chapter 129 and was compiled into a total of 16 volumes. Viz Media is publishing it in English, describing the story:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.

The game adaptation of the franchise, Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME, exceeded 750,000 million pre-registrations and launched worldwide on August 31.
