Kengan Ashura is preparing to return to Japanese television with its Season 2, and a new retrospective trailer has been released to commemorate it. The new PV is titled “Kengan Ashura in About 5 Minutes,” and recaps the major events leading up to the final episodes.
Although Kengan Ashura Season 2 Part 2 originally concluded its run on Netflix in 2024, the upcoming broadcast will be the anime’s first appearance on Japanese terrestrial television. The new video is meant to help both new watchers and long-time fans prepare for the program.
The TV broadcast will begin in July 2025 with Kengan Ashura Season 2 Part 1 Best Bout, a selection of ten episodes from the first half of Season 2. These selected episodes will air weekly on TOKYO MX and MBS. Following the selection broadcast, the complete run of Season 2 Part 2 will air starting in September 2025. TOKYO MX will start the broadcast on September 12, while MBS will follow on September 13. The 16-episode broadcast will continue weekly until December 2025.
Background
Kengan Ashura is adapted from the manga of the same name, written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. The original manga was serialized between 2012 and 2018 through Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday digital platform. Following the conclusion of the initial series, a direct sequel titled Kengan Omega launched in 2019, continuing the story with both returning and new characters. Kengan Omega is still ongoing.
The anime adaptation was produced by LARX Entertainment, which handled both seasons of the series. The first season premiered on Netflix in 2019, split into two parts consisting of 12 episodes each. Directed by Seiji Kishi, the adaptation featured character designs by Kazuaki Morita, while Makoto Uezu managed the series composition. Yasuharu Takanashi composed the music.
Season 2 debuted in September 2023, beginning with a 12-episode first part that covered the initial stages of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. The second part, which covers the tournament’s climax and conclusion, premiered globally on Netflix in 2024. It will now make its terrestrial TV debut in Japan starting September 2025.
Netflix describes the story:
Underground gladiator Tokita Ohma fights on behalf of business mogul Nogi Hideki, who wagers mega-business deals on the outcomes of the brutal matches.
In addition to the main series, Netflix also streams the crossover movie Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashura, which brings together characters from Kengan Ashura and the Baki franchise for a special crossover event.
