The artist behind Chainsaw Man’s OP song “KICK BACK,” Kenshi Yonezu, has released a music video for “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing,” the official theme song for Square Enix’s latest action-JRPG, Final Fantasy XVI. You can watch the official music video below, or stream the track on your favorite platform.
As an avid gamer and fan of the Final Fantasy series, Yonezu took his craft a step further and personally created the track’s cover artwork. The cover features Torgal, a companion wolf who travels with Clive Rosfield, the main character in Final Fantasy XVI.
Kenshi Yonezu specifically created “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing” for Final Fantasy XVI, and commented ahead of its release:
Words cannot express the impact Final Fantasy has had on my life. I never thought or imagined that I would ever receive an opportunity like this. I wrote this song especially for this game. Thank you.
Kenshi Yonezu
Naoki Yoshida, the producer of both Final Fantasy XVI and the massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, expressed his excitement for the collaboration:
When I found out that we’d be able to work with Yonezu-san, I was not only surprised, but overjoyed. I’m a big fan of Yonezu’s work, and I know that he has a passion for creating music that resonates across the generations, so I was sure that he’d be able to capture the world, the story, and the themes of FFXVI. He’s not only an amazing artist, but also an avid gamer and an FF fan, so please look forward to hearing his theme song!

Final Fantasy XVI released on PlayStation 5 on June 22 to largely positive reviews from game critics, particularly receiving praise for its narrative and visual elements. The game has a minimum six-month limited-time exclusion period for the PS5 console, with a potential PC release in 2024—although Square Enix hasn’t officially announced anything yet.
