The two upcoming animated films, Kuramerukagari and Kurayukaba, have revealed the theme songs’ titles and artists. The famous musician and anisong singer Masayoshi Oishi is in charge of writing, composing, and producing “Bokura no Hakoniwa,” the theme song for Kuramerukagari. Charan Po Rantan, a sister-duo unit known for producing the theme song for the 2016 drama We Married As A Job, is in charge of Kurayukaba’s theme song “Naisho no Uta.”
Additionally, Kuramerukagari has also announced additional characters and cast for the movie. The new cast members are as follows:
- Yuuki Sakakihara (Polka Shinoyama from Death Mount Death Play) as Yuya, the boy who likes the main character Kagari and makes a living as a map seller.
- Takao Ootsuka (Aqua from Oshi no Ko) as Iseya, a young man working at a rental bookstore while also working as an information broker.
- Yoshimasa Hosoya (Reiner from Attack on Titan) as Eiwa-jima, the enforcer and face of the Komainu Yuryo Shokai, a reputable store in a coal mining town that resembles a miniature garden.
- Nanako Mori (Cagalli from the movie Gundam SEED FREEDOM) as Shiina, an investigator for a special agency following the events in the movie.
- Aoi Yuuki (Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries) as Ameya, an informant with whom Shiina has a close relatioship with. She takes the form as a amezaiku (a traditional Japanese candy) vendor.
Kurayukaba is a feature-length animated film written and directed by Shigeyoshi Tsukahara. The film won the Audience Award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2023 Fantasia International Film Festival. The film is set in Japan’s Taisho-era and follows a detective named Satorou as he unravels the mystery of a mass disappearance, but finds himself stepping into an underground world called “Kuragali.”
Kuramerukagari is a movie based on a spin-off of Kurayukaba written by Ryohgo Narita (Baccano!). The film was also directed by Shigeyoshi Tsukahara. Kuramerukagari is set in a coal mining town called “Hakoniwa” and it follows Kagari, a young girl who owns a map shop. She records the town as her daily life unfolds.
Kuramerukagari and Kurayukaba were first announced on December 2023 alongside new trailers for the films. The trailers for both movies can be streamed on Twin Engine’s Official YouTube Channel. Both films are scheduled to be released simultaneously in Japan on April 12, 2024.
