After a teaser announcement last week, Makoto Shinkai’s next film Suzume no Tojimari has been revealed. The movie premieres in the Fall of 2022 in Japan. The synopsis and main visual are now available:
Doors of Disaster open across Japan. 17-year-old Suzune lives in a quiet town in the Kyushu region in Japan. The story begins when she meets a young man on a journey to discover the Doors. She follows him and finds an old door at an abandoned building in the mountains. As if drawn by something, she reaches out to the door. This is the start of her journey across Japan to lock up the Doors that bring disasters. Makoto Shinkai’s modern adventure and battle story about a girl’s freedom and growth sets off.
Suzume no Tojimari is likely to invoke a lot of emotions as we’re used to when it comes to Makoto Shinkai’s previous works. It’s worth noting that he previously said it’d be post-apocalyptic. Shinkai himself is directing and writing the script for the original movie. Masayoshi Tanaka is doing character designs, while Kenichi Tsuchiya is an animator director. Tanji Takumi is the art director for the movie. Shinkai’s Comics Wave Film is animating, while Toho will handle the distribution.
