Mamoru Miyano Wins the Voice Actor Category of Yahoo! Japan’s Search Awards

Being active in the voice-acting industry for more than two decades already, the prolific voice actor has taken on a wide range of roles this year, with some of the most notable ones being the Upper Moon Two Doma from Demon Slayer: Swordsmith’s Village which aired in Spring 2023, and Osamu Dazai from the anime series Bungo Stray Dogs whose fourth and fifth season aired in Winter and Summer 2023 respectively. However, these popular roles were not the reason Miyano became the most-searched voice actor in Japan: it was his role as the Japanese voice of Mario for the 2023 American animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Not only was Miyano active in his voice-acting endeavors this year, but he also made guest appearances in several drama series, such as Ranma and The Expert of Changing Jobs.

The rest of the top 5 rankings in the Voice Actor category were claimed by Megumi Hayashibara, whose role in the 2023 Japanese drama Vivant led her to second place. Following closely, Subaru Kimura secured the third spot with his role as Gian in the 2023 animated film Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia. Ayumu Murase ranked fourth as he was recently cast as the voice of the first ever male PreCure of the Pretty Cure franchise, while the voice behind Sailor Moon, Kotono Mitsuishi, placed fifth.

There are six categories in total for the “People” category, specifically “Actors,” “Musicians”, along with “Athletes,” “Comedians,” “Voice Actors,” and “Specials”. There is also a separate commendation for the “Work” category, encompassing “Animation,” “Movies,” “Games,” “Dramas,” and “Songs”. Ultimately, the “Face of the Year” grand prize awaits the most-searched individual regardless of the category. The only criterion for this award is simply the data reflected from the search engine, therefore making it an award chosen by the people themselves based on their interests.
