SAKAMOTO DAYS revealed the preview for Episode 1, which is set to premiere on Netflix worldwide on January 11. The anime previously released the opening video, which introduced the opening theme song “RUN SAKAMOTO RUN” by Vaundy. Two split cours were confirmed, with the second one premiering in July.

The first episode is titled “The Legendary Hitman.”

The episode’s synopsis is described:
There was once a legendary hitman—his name was Taro Sakamoto. Feared by all criminals, he was an assassin of extraordinary skill.

One day, however, he fell in love at first sight with a woman named Aoi, who worked at a convenience store. Without hesitation, he retired as a hitman.

After getting married and having a daughter, Sakamoto settled down in a peaceful town, running a small shop. Over time, he gained so much weight that he no longer resembled his former self…‼

Then, one day, his former junior, Shin, appears and begs him to return to the world of assassins. To protect his beloved family, the legendary battle of the former hitman Sakamoto is about to begin‼

Studio TMS Entertainment is in charge of the animation. The main staff includes Masaki Watanabe as the director, Yo Moriyama as the character designer, Yuto Suzuki in charge of the screenplay and Taku Kishimoto in charge of the series composition. The main voice cast consists of:

SAKAMOTO DAYS is a Japanese manga by Yuto Suzuki. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 2020, with 20 volumes released as of January 4, 2024. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English. The franchise recently announced its first game adaptation, which is set for a Spring 2025 release in between the anime parts.

The story follows Taro Sakamoto, a once legendary hitman who retired to marry and have a child. Now he runs a store, but his past life will not let him simply rest. Despite having attained a different physical apperance, Sakamoto will not hesistate to protect his family and take down anyone who tries to put them in danger.
