Monogatari: Off Season & Monster Season Reveals Theme Song in New Trailer

The upcoming Monogatari: Off Season & Monster Season anime adaptation revealed a new trailer featuring the theme song by YOASOBI that was announced yesterday. The anime premieres on July 6, 2024. The song titled “Undead” can be heard in the trailer, which covers Orokamonogatari and Nademonogatari stories:

Studio SHAFT is animating the highly-anticipated sequel with Akiyuki Shinbo as the chief director and Midori Yoshizawa as director. Shinbo is also in charge of the series composition with Fuyashi Tou. Akio Watanabe is once again signing off on character designs.

Off-Season is a collection of side stories focusing on different characters. It consists of four arcs: OrokamonogatariWazamonogatariNademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari. Overall, it is the fourth saga in the novel series. Meanwhile, Monster Season tells the story of Koyomi Araragi’s university life in six arcs:

  • Shinobumonogatari
  • Yoimonogatari
  • Amarimonogatari 
  • Ougimonogatari
  • Shinomonogatari (two novels)

Monogatari is a light novel series written by Nisi Oisin and illustrated by Vofan. The series started serialization in 2006 and although volumes cover different arcs, the titles of each one end with -monogatariBakemonogatari is a manga adaptation of the light novel, illustrated by Oh! Great. It has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2018.

YOASOBI rose to fame among anime fans from all over the world with theme songs for series such as Oshi no KoBEASTARS, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. The duo consists of producer Ayumu and singer-songwriter Ikura. The two recently performed at the White House, during the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit to the US. Whenever asked about his favorite anime, Ayase would say Bakemonogatari. “When it was decided that I would be in charge of the music for the latest work, I was really happy. I created this with all my heart and soul, filled with love for the work and each character that appears in it. Thank you all for your support.”

Ikura also commented: “I am truly honored to be able to be involved with the music in the latest installment of the Monogatari series, which has been loved by many people for a long time. I sang while carefully interpreting each of the feelings of the characters that appear in this work. I hope you enjoy listening to it.”
