My Deer Friend Nokotan anime has revealed the 2nd key visual and trailer, along with new cast members and the opening song. WIT Studio is in charge of the animation, with the anime set to premiere in July 2024. The new trailer features the opening song “Shikairo Days” performed by the Deer Club (main characters), and you watch it with English subtitles below.
Masahiko Ohta will direct the anime, Ayumu Tsujimura is the character designer, Takashi Aoshima is in charge of the script and composition, and Yasuhiro Misawa is in charge of the music. Check out the 2nd key visual for the My Deer Friend Nokotan below.
The ending theme song is “Shika-senbei no Uta” performed by the characters Shikanoko Noko and Koshi Torako. Both of the songs will be available for early streaming starting July 8, right after the first episode airs. They will be released on CD on August 28, 2024. New cast additions for the anime include:
Yurika Kubo as Nekoyamada Neko (Neko-chan)
Character description: Adorably clumsy vice president Neko is the vice president of the student council at
Tokyo Metropolitan Hino Minami High School. She plots to disband the Deer Club and tries to uncover Koshitan’s weaknesses but always ends up failing hilariously.
Yurika Kubo’s comment: I’m Yurika Kubo, and I’ll be playing the role of Nekoyamada Neko. When I first heard the title “My Deer Friend Nokotan,” I felt an inexplicable connection to it, so I am truly delighted and honored to be a part of this project. Neko-chan may be small, but she’s a hard worker with a bit of a sharp tongue, yet she’s absolutely lovable! She has a charm that makes you want to cheer for her, so I’ll do my best to make everyone fall in love with her!
Rio Tsuchiya as Tanukikouji Kinu (Tanuki)
Character description: Ultra-Negative Secretary Kinu is the secretary of the student council at Tokyo Metropolitan Hino Minami High School. Her kind and serious nature makes her prone to negative thinking. Her specialty dish is egg on rice (with eggshells included).
Rio Tsuchiya’s comment: I’m Rio Tsuchiya, and I’ll be voicing Tanuki. When I first read the original work, I was pleasantly shocked, thinking, “What is this…?” in the best possible way. During the recording sessions, I often find myself nearly laughing at everyone’s lines. Tanuki is a girl with a negative mindset who easily gets flustered, but I’ll give my all to ensure she stands out amidst the chaos! It’s a work that will make you laugh even when you’re tired, so I hope you enjoy it!
Chinatsu Akasaki as Tsubameya Chiharu (Tsubame)
Character description: Passionate Nokotan Fan Chiharu is the treasurer of the student council at Tokyo Metropolitan Hino Minami High School. Though she appears quiet and cool, she’s a dedicated Nokotan fan. She has an older brother who works at a café.
Chinatsu Akasaki’s comment: The deer are in motion! This anime is for those who want to fully feel the essence of deer. It’s not about thinking with your head, but feeling it with your heart… and antlers! My character, Tsubame, may seem poker-faced, but she has a heart full of deer spirit. Why not unleash your inner deer spirit too?

My Deer Friend Nokotan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Oshioshio. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in November 2019, while it was transferred to the Magazine Pocket website in December 2023. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English, and they describe the story:
No one knows Torako used to be a delinquent. All of her classmates only know her as the perfect student. But everything changes when Nokotan, a transfer student with antlers, enters her life. Antlers aren’t the only thing strange about Nokotan. Her deer nose can sniff out Torako’s secret past! Whether it’s at school or the zoo, chaos follows this doe-eyed girl’s every step. Torako has so many questions! Is Nokotan a deer, a girl, or something in-between?
