Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga revealed on Wednesday the cover visual for the upcoming final volume 42. It compiles a new 38-page story that tells what happens in the world after the main story ends with chapter 430. The subtitle reads “Watashi ga Kita (lit. I Have Come).” The release date is set for December 4, 2024.
My Hero Academia’s final volume illustrates in the cover a strong reminiscence of the first volume’s cover: From All Might’s iconic side chest pose with a big smile to Izuku Midoriya’s (Deku) same pose. The heroes behind them are Deku’s classmates, while a new student parallels younger Deku.
The author also updated his X (formerly Twitter) page on the day to add a note:
“Sato-kun is placed in an unbelievable position, but I forced him to fit in there because there was a person in the first volume cover. The smile makes me think he should be all right. The final volume will be released on December 4. Thank you!“
A large-scale exhibition titled “Kohei Horikoshi ‘My Hero Academia’ Genga-ten” is also announced with a newly drawn key visual by the author. The event commemorates the finale with the manga’s Genga art and is scheduled to be held from June 21, 2025, to August 31 at CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO, located in Kyobashi, Tokyo. Along with the official manga account, a dedicated page for the exhibition (@heroaca_exhibit) will post updates on X.
Kohei Horikohi launched the Shonen manga series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2024. The decade-long serialization ended in August 2024. The title first inspired a TV anime adaptation by studio BONES in 2016 and has since made a total of seven TV anime seasons and four anime film adaptations. Season 8 is currently planned to conclude the anime series in 2025.
