Week 12 (final week) results of our Summer 2021 polls had a somewhat surprising twist, My Villain (Hero) Academia taking 1st place! Ever since the villain arc started, we got some more insight into the villains’ backstories. More specifically, for Toga, Twice, and Tomura. Each one was tragic, and it got the fans to at least understand the characters’ motivation a bit more. Since those episodes started, the show consistently remained within the top 10. Finally, the Shigaraki vs Re-Destro climax got it to the top for the first time this season.
Although there were many things fans found lacking, My Villain Academia at least delivered a hype build-up to what’s next. Here’s the final week Top 10:
Now, if you told someone that it would rank 1st back in February/April, it wouldn’t be surprising. The show ranked 1st in the most anticipated anime for Spring 2021 for our fans, and it was looking to continue after the hype Endeavor generated in his fight against the Nomu. Fun fact: It even ranked 1st in our 1st week of Spring 2021, which was the last time to be there until this week. That was after the episode 90 “Vestiges” when we first saw Deku meet the previous One For All wielders and break a window. The top 10 results of that week:
After that, we got Class A vs Class B, and the show started to rank lower. It ranked 4th in the 2 following weeks, after which it dropped below top 10. Then it came back in week 7 when Todoroki highlight happened, ranking 5th. The weeks after that were ranks 4th and 3rd, with Bakugo and Deku episodes. Then it went out again.
What’s next
The final episode of Season 5 aired on Saturday, September 25. Right after the broadcast, My Hero Academia Season 6 was announced, which is likely set to adapt the Paranormal Liberation War arc, which is definitely the highest rated part of the manga so far.
Do you think My Villain Academia deserved to top the final week of Summer 2021?
