Netflix Anime showcases its latest lineup at AnimeJapan 2021. These include Record of Ragnarok, Yasuke, Eden, The Way of the Househusband, and Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
The global streaming giant announced details for five of its upcoming Netflix Anime titles during its mega-rich stage event held on March 27. This is part of Netflix’s ongoing plan to premiere around 40 original anime titles this year.
Record of Ragnarok (Premieres in June 2021)
First on the Netflix AnimeJapan 2021 list is Record of Ragnarok which premieres globally this June. The series casts Miyuki Sawashiro, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Tomokazu Seki, Hikaru Midorikawa and Wataru Takagi.
Also, Director Masao Okubo leads the production at studio GRAPHINICA.
“Record of Ragnarok” is the story of 13 gods from across the globe and 13 of the world’s most notable humans fighting it out in one-on-one battles to decide the fate of humanity.
Based on the manga created by Azychika, Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui, an earnest battle of transcendental rage begins!
In addition, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is in charge of series composition, with Masaki Sato taking charge of character design. Additionally, Koji Takanashi takes care of the series’ music.
Yasuke (Premieres on April 29)
Next up is the 6-episode sci-fi anime Yasuke. This series premieres on April 29. Academy Award nominee LaKeith Stanfield will voice the titular role Yasuke.
In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence.
But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.
MAPPA will animate the series under the direction of series creator LeSean Thomas. Takeshi Koike, who created the special art above, is in charge of character design.
Flying Lotus handles the series’ music. Likewise, Stanfield joins Flying Lotus and Thomas as executive directors of this series.
Not to mention, the series is loosely-based on historical figure Yasuke, a warrior from what is now known as Mozambique who serves the Jesuits in 15th Century Japan.
Eden (Premieres on May 27)
Another addition in the Netflix AnimeJapan 2021 lineup is Eden, which premieres on May 27. Director Yasuhiro Irie oversees the series production at studios Qubic Pictures and CGCG.
Award-winning composer Kevin Penkin takes charge of music. The series casts Marika Kouno, Kentaro Ito, Kyoko Hikami and Koichi Yamadera.
Thousands of years in the future, a city known as “Eden” is inhabited solely by Artificially Intelligent robots whose former masters vanished long ago.
On a routine assignment, within the depths of the city, two maintenance robots accidentally awaken a human baby girl from stasis questioning all they were taught to believe: That humans were nothing more than a forbidden ancient myth.
Together, the two robots secretly raise the child in a safe haven outside Eden.
Additionally, Justin Leach is the executive producer, while Toshihiro Kawamoto is the character designer.
Christophe Ferreira does the concept design, while Kimiko Ueno takes care of the screenplay. What’s more, Clover Xie directs the series’ background art.
The Way of the Househusband (Premieres on April 8)
Coming up this month is The Way of the Househusband, the adaptation of Kosuke Oono’s award-winning manga which premieres on April 8. Househusband stars Kenjiro Tsuda, Shizuka Ito and Kazuyuki Okitsu.
Feared among the yakuza as “The Immortal Dragon”, Tatsu is a legend of the underworld with an impressive number of defeated rival gangs under his belt.
However, hoping to wash his hands of his past, Tatsu gets married and devotes himself fully to the way of the househusband by diligently undertaking the cooking, cleaning, washing and grocery shopping each day.
On the other hand, there’s one person who’s not happy about Tatsu’s new domestic life — his tough, former yakuza underling, Masa.
As Tatsu tries his best to pursue the way of the househusband, one assassin after another tries their hand at taking him out!
Chiaki Kon directs the series at studio J.C.Staff while Susumu Yamakawa handles the series composition. Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai will perform the series’ theme songs Shufu no michi (Opening) and “Kiwami” meoto kaido (ending).
Househusband is not only listed in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi guidebook for 2019, but is also awarded the Best Humor Publication of 2020 at the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness (Premieres in 2021)
Last but not the least is Capcom’s original work RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness, which premieres this year. Capcom will oversee the production and supervision of the series. The series casts Toshiyuki Morikawa.
In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network.
American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies.
Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation.
The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing.
Leon seems to realize some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves.
In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.
Additionally, Quebico will handle the series’ full 3D CG animation production. Moreover, TMS Entertainment takes charge of production.
Also gracing the Netflix AnimeJapan 2021 stage are voice actors Kenjiro Tsuda, Marika Kouno and Toshiyuki Morikawa who expressed their excitement about the global launch.
To sum up, Netflix strengthens its ongoing commitment to become a home for fans and creators worldwide. Additionally, this year’s target of releasing 40 new original anime titles doubles last year’s figures.
