Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022 is well underway and we finally got to the part we have all been waiting for – the anime announcements. This year we got quite a few of them, but most were about the previously announced titles. Some surprises were also sprinkled in, such as WIT Studio’s Moonrise (which has been dormant since the 2018 announcement).
The event will continue throughout the week. But without dragging things out, let’s take a look at just what has been announced so far, with more updates to come!
Netflix Geeked 2022 – Anime Announcements

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
The highly anticipated Cyberpunk anime finally revealed a bit more information. The adaptation will have 10 episodes and will aim to further expand the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. A teaser trailer has been revealed:
Netflix describes the plot as:
The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
Studio TRIGGER is animating the series, with CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the original game. Hioryuki Imaishi is directing, while P.T. Adamczyk is writing the script and producing. A key visual was revealed:
Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of Macabre
The previously announced Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of Macabre anime is set to air in 2023, and Junji ito himself took the time to introduce it to the fans. The anime will focus on stories about Tomie, Souichi, and The Hanging Balloons.
Moonrise
Tow Ubukata’s Moonrise was announced in 2018, along with a novel that was published in the same year. Not much was known about the project other than the fact that WIT Studio will animate it. However, during Netflix Geeked Week 2022 a key visual was revealed, along with the director’s name – Masashi Koizuka.
Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh
Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 1 is coming to Netflix this December. A special visual by Suzuki Nakaba that features the character designs for the movie was revealed:
Uncle From Another World
Uncle From Another World is going to be a Netflix exclusive. The anime will begin airing in Japan on July 6, 2022, and will be available on Netflix worldwide “soon” – according to the announcement made during Geeked Week. The anime also revealed a new key visual, along with a trailer:
Castlevania: Nocturne
The new Castlevania project revealed an announcement trailer. It will focus on Richter Belmont and will be produced by Project 51 Productions and Powerhouse Animation.
Exception
Exception is a horror title that was announced during last year’s Geeked events. The anime features story by Hirotaka Adachi and character designs by Final Fantasy’s Yoshitaka Amano. Now, nearly a year later we finally got a first look at the art and story:
Skull Island
The latest in line of animated series that Netflix refers to as anime, even if they aren’t produced in Japan, is Skull Island, first announce during Geeked Week 2022. The series is based on the King Kong story and has revealed a teaser:
DOTA: Dragon’s Blood
DOTA: DRAGON’S BLOOD is returning this August with the third season. Korean studio Production Reve animated the first two seasons, which are based on the DOTA game franchise.
