During a press conference on July 1, the Spanish convention Manga Barcelona announced the first confirmed guests for the festival’s 32nd edition. The lineup includes horror manga artist Junji Ito, singer Reol, band Alien Liberty International (ALI), rapper Lotus Juice, director Shoji Kawamori, animator Risa Ebata, among others. Ito was also the mastermind behind the official poster for Manga Barcelona 2026, revealed during the press conference.
The official art includes characters from Ito-sensei’s popular works resting in Park Güell, a prominent location in Barcelona designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. In the foreground, wearing a red dress, is Tomie Kawakami from the manga of the same name, followed by two recurring characters in Ito-sensei’s works: the young and dark Souichi Tsujii and the model Fuchi. Fukata Ryuusuke, the gloomy protagonist of Lovesickness, stands behind them, just above Yon & Mu, Junji Ito’s cats.
Turning now to the guests, the organization added that more artists will be confirmed at a later date. In the meantime, let’s take a loot at the careers of the confirmed Japanese guests for Manga Barcelona 2026.
