Embers follows the story of Haitani, a delinquent known as the strongest brawler in his school, who unexpectedly encounters the world of soccer. It is featured as a major new series for Weekly Shonen Jump, with its first chapter set to have 54 pages. Its debut issue will also include a color spread.
Numerous big Weekly Shonen Jump hits recently ended, so it’s no wonder they are working on launching new titles. Some of the recent manga to leave the magazine were My Hero Academia, JUJUTSU KAISEN, Mission: Yozakura Family, and Undead Unluck.
Starting a rivalry with BLUE LOCK is bound to be an uphill battle, considering that it’s going against the best-selling manga of 2023. However, given the former’s popularity, it may just mean that there is a big enough market for shonen soccer manga series, and we’ll just have to see the direction it takes. BLUE LOCK is known for basically being a ‘battle manga,’ so it will be interesting to see if Embers focuses more on the tactical side of the sport.
