Toei Animation filed a trademark application for Meitantei Precure! (EN name: Star Detective Precure!) on November 18, which was published in Japan on November 27. It’s unconfirmed what the project refers to, given that the trademark application spans a wide range of classes. Nevertheless, previous patterns by anime studio Toei Animation strongly indicate a new Star Detective Precure! anime is on the way. UPDATE (11/27): Hours later, the official Toei Animation website has now confirmed Star Detective Precure! as the 23rd installment of the long-running anime series. The rest of the article remains unchanged.

The Precure anime franchise began in 2004, penned by the writers’ collective at Toei Animation, Izumi Todo. It’s currently in its 22nd mainline iteration, You and Idol Precure, directed by Chiaki Kon. A movie based on the You and Idol Precure series debuted in September. You can check out the visual here. The latest series is described:
Middle school student Uta Sakura loves to sing any chance she gets. But music becomes more than a hobby when she meets Purirun, a fairy whose hometown has plunged into darkness. The Chokkiri Gang took over her land and began stealing her people’s sparkle. Determined to help, Uta is transformed into the legendary protector Cure Idol and vows to return their sparkle through song.

WWE star AJ Lee revealed this week that she and writing partner Aimee Garcia co-wrote a film at Toei Animation. Earlier this year, storyboard artist Christo Tandyo shared that he had storyboarded for a film at Toei Animation, set to be directed by Kung-Fu Panda 4 co-director Stephanie Ma Stine.

In other recent trademark sleuthing, Shueisha filed an application for Uchino Otouto-domo ga Sumimasen (Sorry About My Younger Brothers) on November 14. Shueisha has been publishing the original manga in its Bessatsu Margaret magazine since 2020. Most notably, the trademark application featured a new logo, unlike those of the manga and the live-action film that aired in December 2024. It was recently reported that a web domain had been registered for what appears to be a Uchino Otouto-domo ga Sumimasen anime, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
