ONE PIECE dropped Chapter 1137 today, revealing new hints about Shanks and his lineage and making the Elbaph arc even more interesting. You can read the chapter on the VIZ website or the MANGA Plus website.

Beware of ONE PIECE Chapter 1137 spoilers below.

The chapter is titled “Shamrock Takes the Stage,” already giving a hint on who will be the key figure. It starts with the exploration of the castle at Elbaph, revealing some information on King Harald and his fight against Loki. We learned about the Ancient Giant race which had horns, as well as that King Harald thought they belonged in the past and ripped off his horns.

Loki was again teased to be incredibly strong with the aftermath of his fight. He managed to defeat all of the giant warriors that faced him, with only Jarul surviving of the hundred. We also learned a bit about Hajrudin and his motivation that seems like a smaller parallel of Luffy’s dream. However, the most important of ONE PIECE Chapter 1137 arrived with the appearance of Loki.

Facing the two members of the World Government, we see them torture the giant with no resistance due to him being locked up. We also see Gunko, the user of the Arrow-Arrow fruit, show her power, but the key reveal was the other member, Shamrock Figarland. With an appearance identical to Shanks excluding the scar, the first conclusion is that it’s a (twin) brother. While there are other possibilities, this one proving to be true could go against many popular theories that the popular pirate is secretly helping the government.

Shamrock is the Commander of the Holy Knights, and their goal at Elbaph was to have Loki join them. This could mean that the previous appearance of ‘Shanks’ with the Gorosei was likely Shamrock as they hid the scarred side of his face. The character was voiced by Shuichi Ikeda, Shanks’ voice actor. This could also give the possibility that Shamrock was somehow involved in the clash with Kaido at the time Shanks appeared to stop the Marineford War.

In the “4 Billion” volume released for the ONE PIECE FILM RED, it was revealed that a 1-year-old Shanks was found in a treasure chest after the God Valley incident. The connection with the Figarland family was strongly implied with the introduction of Saint Figarland Garling in Chapter 1095, who also shared Shanks’ appearance in his youth. In addition, in the same movie, Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro from the Gorosei implied that Uta, whom they knew as Shanks’ daughter, was from the Figarland family.

Shanks, also known as “Red-Haired Shanks,” is one of the most influential figures in ONE PIECE. He started as a cabin boy on Gol D. Roger’s ship, inheriting the Straw Hat from Roger, which he later passed to Monkey D. Luffy, inspiring him to become a pirate and start his journey. The manga entered its final arc in 2022, and it seems like Eiichiro Oda is close to revealing the major secrets he’s been leading up to for over two decades.

The anime previously announced an April 6, 2025 return with a new key visual and trailer at last month’s Jump Festa, while the special edited version of the Fish-Man Island Saga is currently taking its place.

There is also the upcoming remake by WIT Studio, as well as the 2nd season of the live-action series, which recently revealed announced a LEGO collaboration and is set to premiere later this year.
