For the 25th anniversary of the beloved ONE PIECE anime series, Toei Animation announced that it will be having an activation display on the Exosphere, the exterior of the Sphere at Las Vegas. Alongside this is the soft launching of a new global YouTube channel which will feature news, information, and special content for English-speaking fans around the world. The two events are timed together, with the larger-than-life display set to “take over” the Sphere on June 10-16, 2024.
Masayuki Endo, the President of Toei Animation, shared a message to ONE PIECE fans:
“One Piece is now celebrating its 25th anniversary on the heels of last year’s truly explosive global brand awareness due to the overwhelming success of the franchise’s new productions and marketing efforts. We’re excited to commemorate the occasion and bring the world of One Piece to Las Vegas in June. We invite fans to not only join us next month for this very special live entertainment experience but also subscribe to the new One Piece English channel on YouTube.”
This will be the largest ONE PIECE display yet, with the Sphere at Las Vegas being the biggest spherical structure in the world measuring about 366 ft (112 m) tall and 516 ft (157 m) wide. The activation of the display will consist of a 90-second-long animation created specially for the Exosphere.
Its week-long residency includes a four-hour-long “takeover” on Tuesday, June 11 between 7:00 – 11:00 pm Pacific during which time the ONE PIECE activation will be featured. For fans interested in seeing the display, don’t forget that the official ONE PIECE cafe is also just around the corner.
Toei Animation also reported on the success of ONE PIECE’s licensing gains this year, highlighting notable collaborations and detailing a selection of new agreements. Some of the most noteworthy ones were the merchandise with DIM MAK, Cloud9, and PUMA.
Meanwhile, the Monkey D. Luffy giant character balloon at the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the immersive ONE PIECE location-based entertainment experience at New York Comic Con 2023 were also well-received. Lastly, the 25th-anniversary celebrations still have plenty to reveal, such as the upcoming Emotion Exhibit and the Music Symphony Tour.
