Kazuya and the girls are getting a lot of love lately: apart from the Season 4 announcement, a Rent-a-Girlfriend visual novel has been announced. Titled Rent-a-Girlfriend: The Horizon and the Girl in the Swimsuit, the MAGES-produced visual novel will be released on the Nintendo Switch and PS4 on November 28. Both versions of the game will retail for about $60.
As of writing, little is known about the story and gameplay. But, MAGES, which was formed back in 2005, has enough releases to their name to keep fan’s minds at ease. Being responsible for games and visual novels such as; KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love for These Clothes of Desire! Quintessential Quintuplets ∬: Summer Memories, YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World, the company is well known for its anime-related and standalone content.
Rent-a-Girlfriend, the rom-com manga by Reiji Miyajima, first began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine back in 2017 and, as of writing, has an impressive 36 volumes to its name. The franchise also includes a spin-off novel titled Rent-A-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend, which focuses on Sumi Sakurasawa, three anime seasons, a live-action drama, and even a mobile game titled Rent-a-Girlfriend: Heroine All-Stars, which shut down last year.
Available on Crunchyroll, Rent-a-Girlfriend follows Kazuya Kinoshita, who, after a breakup, decides to give a rental girlfriend service a try in order to mend his broken heart. But soon enough, due to circumstances neither he nor his rental girlfriend (Chizuru Mizuhara) could have imagined, they must keep up their charade.
But like with various things in life, once you get the ball rolling, you can’t stop it and its path may very well surprise you. As the two are forced to spend time together, they start to realize that their connection may be more than just a business transaction.
