Rifujin na Magonote Plans on Writing a New Story Set in Mushoku Tensei Universe, But Not as a Sequel

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation author, Rifujin na Magonote, revealed that he plans on writing a new story set in the Mushoku universe. The author revealed his plans after a fan asked him on Twitter. However, the story, which should take place about 80 years after the original, will not be written solely as a Mushoku sequel, the author stated. It is not clear if it will focus on one of the existing characters, but Rifujin an Magonote previously said that Lara and Lily might get their own story.

I’m talking about 80 years after the Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, but after the anime and Orc Eroica are done. It depends on how long the anime lasts, so maybe in 3 to 8 years. Also, I don’t really intend to write it as a “sequel to Mushoku Tensei.”

About Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation light novel has been serialized in Media Factory’s MF Bunko imprint since 2014 with Shirotaka’s illustrations. The story was originally published as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website which hosts user-generated content. The web novel ran from November 2012 to April 2015: the light novel expanded upon the story while keeping the basic outline and, seemingly the ending, the same. The light novel serialization is set to end on November 25, with the 26th volume. The cover was recently unveiled by MF Books – to avoid spoilers you can find it on the second page.

Mushoku Tensei also has a manga adaptation by Yuka Fujikawa, which is currently ongoing. Eris spin-off manga is also being serialized at the moment. The series received an anime adaptation by Studio Bind, which aired in two cours throughout 2021. The first cour aired in the Winter anime season, while the second started in the Fall season. The Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation anime will be getting a sequel – a second season, which recently revealed the first trailer and 2023 premiere date. A special OAD episode titled “Eris the Goblin Slayer” also recently premiered.

Seven Seas is publishing the light novel in English and describes the plot as:
Kicked out by his family and wandering the streets, an unemployed 34-year-old shut-in thinks he’s hit rock-bottom—just as he’s hit and killed by a speeding truck! Awakening to find himself reborn as an infant in a world of swords and sorcery, but with the memories of his first life intact, Rudeus Greyrat is determined not to repeat his past mistakes. He’s going to make the most of this reincarnation as he sets off on the adventure of a second lifetime!
