September 9 has officially been registered as “Attack on Titan Day” by the Japan Anniversary Association, commemorating the date Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan manga began serialization in 2009. The franchise recently opened a new themed café in Japan, set to run from September 3 to October 12, 2026.
The manga debuted on September 9, 2009, in the first issue of Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. A special visual was released for the new anniversary, incorporating the date September 9 and the Nine Titans. The commemorative logo also features a motif based on the Final Titan.
Several projects are planned for September 9. On Magazine Pocket, the manga will be available to read for free up to Chapter 99 for a limited 99-hour period beginning at midnight JST.
Special anniversary merchandise will also be sold through Magazine Shop. The lineup will include goods using the new commemorative visual, as well as newly drawn artwork by Isayama featuring Eren, Levi and Erwin dressed in formal clothes.
A special livestream is also planned for the evening of September 9. Yuki Kaji, who voices Eren Yeager, Yui Ishikawa, who voices Mikasa Ackerman, and Hiro Shimono, who voices Connie Springer, will be appearing. The stream will share various updates related to Attack on Titan, with further details to be announced through the franchise’s official X account.
Hajime Isayama wrote and illustrated the Attack on Titan manga, which was serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021. Its chapters were compiled into 34 volumes. The TV anime adaptation was animated by WIT Studio for the first 3 seasons, after which MAPPA took over. The anime ran for a total of 94 episodes, with the final episodes (88-94) streamed as the two Final Chapters specials.
The Final Chapters were compiled into the THE LAST ATTACK movie with improved visuals and sound. It premiered in Japan on November 8 to mostly positive reviews, also introducing a new post-credit scene. The movie exceeded 1 billion yen in revenue on December 5, with international screenings starting in early 2025. Crunchyroll began streaming the movie on April 17, 2025.
Producer Tetsuya Kinoshita previously teased new upcoming projects for the anime, including plans for new films and collaborations. The franchise recently also got a special visual by MAPPA for the studio’s 15th anniversary, along with confirming new animation for the upcoming Attack on Titan 3 game.
