Amassing over 23,000 votes and with a pool of 72 nominees the results for this season’s best voice actors and actresses are now here. For the first time ever, Rie Takahashi who had consistently secured second place in every winter since 2021, almost getting to the top last season, has risen to the occasion and emerged victorious to claim the coveted first place spot. Her bombastic performance as Megumin in Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! coupled with her captivating role as the legendary idol Ai Hoshino in Oshi no Ko and Yuzuriha in Hell’s Paradise, showcased her immense passion for voice acting and proved that she deserved the highest place in the charts.
Just right behind Takahashi is Megumi Han who delivered a stunning display of versatility and acting prowess with her roles this season. Among those, her brilliant performance as Kana Arima in Oshi no Ko shined the most, exhibiting her impeccable talent and mastery.
Kana Hanazawa who portrayed the cute and deadly Mitsuri Kanroji in Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc and the super adorable Nagisa Kubo in Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible is in third place. And to complete the top 5, we have two rookie voice actresses Yurie Igoma and Hina Yomiya, who were profound in their respective roles.

Another star in the making, Takeo Otsuka who had a stellar performance as Oshi no Ko‘s main protagonist, Aqua Hoshino, propelled his seiyuu career to new heights and reached the highest spot in the rankings. His talent was extensively shown in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 where he voiced Lauda Neill. With impressive work in voicing the two similar characters, it has come to no surprise that he claimed the top spot for this season.
Chiaki Kobayashi, who is also getting more attention lately, had stand-out performances this season as Gabimaru in Hell’s Paradise and Mash Burnedead in Mashle: Magic and Muscles. Despite voicing characters who have stoic personalities, the voice actor consistently evoked just the right amount of emotions, highlighting the protagonists’ strengths.
After placing 10th last season, Yuto Uemura broke his way into the top 3 with his stupendous and powerful acting as Thorfinn in Vinland Saga Season 2. Rounding out the top 5 we have two Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc voice actors, Natsuki Hanae, and Kengo Kawanishi who had a variety of roles this season, demonstrating why they are one of the best in the field.
The Seiyuu Industry Is Growing
Spring 2023 anime season truly has showcased an abundance of fantastic seiyuus who brought their characters to life with passion and skill. Even though there are plenty of established and popular names this season, it is awesome to witness that even rookies and rising stars have stepped up to the challenge. These coming-of-age talents not only proved that they can compete with prominent voice actors but are also a testament to the manifestation of the industry’s growing standards.
