Square Enix Ends Yang Can’t Live Alone After Editorial Issues, Says Trust With Creator Could Not Be Rebuilt

Square Enix’s Manga UP! has announced that Yang Can’t Live Alone (Yan-senpai wa Hitori de Ikiteikenai) will end later this month, citing long-standing editorial issues that led to a breakdown in trust with creator sooncha.

The publisher confirmed on August 4 that the series will conclude with Chapter 15-3, scheduled for release on August 13. In its official statement, the Manga UP! editorial department acknowledged that the problems stemmed from shortcomings in how the assigned editor handled both the serialization and promotional work.

“There had been shortcomings in how the assigned editor handled the serialization and promotional work. We attempted to rebuild trust, including by changing the editor in charge, but were ultimately unsuccessful. After discussions between sooncha and the Manga UP! editorial department, we reached the decision to end the serialization.”

The publisher also apologized to readers and the creator, stating that it regrets damaging sooncha’s trust and disappointing fans who had been following the series.

“Due to the breakdown in the relationship of trust with Manga UP!, Yang Can’t Live Alone will end with Chapter 15-3, scheduled for release on August 13.”

Sooncha also apologized for making the announcement just before the release of Volume 3, which is scheduled to launch on August 6. According to the creator, both the print and digital release could not be stopped despite the decision to end the series. They added that discussions are underway to recover the rights to the work in hopes of continuing the story elsewhere.

Square Enix said details regarding the removal of chapters from Manga UP! and the end of digital volume distribution will be announced through the app at a later date.
