The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 has released the creditless ending theme “Shiawase no Recipe (The Recipe for Happiness”) performed by Dai Hirai. The first episode of the second season premiered on January 10, a few hours after the release of the opening theme.

As shared on the anime’s website, Dai Hirai expressed that he is thrilled to be part of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2. When he wrote lyrics for the ending theme, he incorporated his personal feelings about the frustrating relationship between Maomao and Jinshi. The song is a lingering reminder of the story’s breathtaking development, but he also hopes that it makes you look forward to the next week as you wonder what will happen next. “Shiawase no Recipe (The Recipe for Happiness”) is now available to stream on multiple platforms.

The Apothecary Diaries is a Japanese light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. The series is licensed by Shunfunotomo’s Hero Bunko, while the English versions are published by J-Novel Club and Square Enix. It also received two manga adaptations: the manga series of the same name by Itsuki Nanao, illustrated by Nekokurage on Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan; and “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao no Kokyu Nazotoki Techo (The Apothecary Diaries: The Palace Cloister Mystery-Solving Notebook of Maomao)” by Minoji Kurata on Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X.

TOHO Animation Studio and OML animated the first season of The Apothecary Diaries in 2023. The second season is airing this Winter 2025, with a total of 24 episodes over two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll describes the plot of the second season:
When a favored concubine becomes pregnant, Maomao is put to the test as her food taster. She must keep her wits sharp, not only to protect the concubine but also against rising dangers in the palace. A new concubine with powerful ties, an unsolved attempt at Jinshi’s life, and a foreign envoy with impossible demands hint at a grand conspiracy poised to engulf the empire.
