The Demon Girl Next Door anniversary special has been announced and it promises to be the biggest event in the franchise’s history. Celebrating the manga’s 10th anniversary and the anime’s 5th, several events and merch releases have been planned in this and next year. These mini-projects are labeled as campaigns and are broken into three major categories.
The first campaign is the Machikado Mazoku Double Anniversary Exhibition “The Path of the Mazoku,” billed as the largest ever for The Demon Girl Next Door. It will feature life-sized figures of the characters, original artwork, new illustrations, and merchandise. While the full details of the event have yet to be announced, we do know that a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the event is planned, and the dates and locations for this campaign are as follows:
- Yurakucho Marui: Saturday, December 14, 2024, to Sunday, January 5, 2025
- Namba Marui: Saturday, January 18, 2025, to Sunday, February 2, 2025
- Hakata Marui: February 14th (Friday) to March 2nd (Sunday), 2025
Campaign 2 is the only one of the three that’s not a physical event. Instead, this campaign will release bridal-themed figures of Shamiko and Momo designed by sculptor Izumi Ito. The release date of these has yet to be revealed.
Campaign 3 is a two-night, all-night marathon screening of The Demon Girl Next Door at the AEON Cinema Tama Center in Tama City, Tokyo. Running from 10:30 pm to 4:40 am on August 9 and September 6, the marathon screening, billed as “Machikado Mazoku” All-Night Screening ~ Let’s Gather at Tama! ~ will feature a guest appearance by the show’s director Hiroaki Sakurai during the pre-screening talk show.
With two seasons to its name, the anime adaptation of Izumo Ito’s 4-panelmanga, The Demon Girl Next Door, has been lovingly handled by J.C. Staff and has firmly cemented itself into the realm of Cute Girls Doing Cute Things (CGDCT). Showing the anime world that Truck-kun is not omnipotent and that one can avoid being isekai’d, the story revolves around Yuuko Yoshida, who, after awakening as a succubus, has to come to terms with her newfound appearance and powers. But as she gets distracted and runs into an accident, her days are almost cut short by a speeding truck. Just as Yuuko thinks the end has come, her not-so-friendly neighborhood magical girl saves her, and a friendship blooms between what would normally be bitter enemies.
