If you’re a fan of The Irregular at Magic High School, you might be interested in the fact that it took inspiration from a lot of places in real life! Obviously they’re in Japan, and our friends from Mipon have made a lot of comparison photos to highlight them. They note that some of the most relevant spots are in 3 major locations: Tokyo, Yokohama and Okinawa. Starting with Tokyo, there’s images of the Hie Shrine. That’s where Tatsuya and his friends paid a visit at the beginning of Visitor Arc.
Moving on to Yokohama, they explain that the Yokohama Disturbance Arc (season 1, episode 19-26) takes place there. Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall is where the Thesis Competition was held. Unfortunately it was not possible to enter and show images of the inside because of the pandemic, but the outside clearly looks exactly the same! This is the place where the cast fought against terrorists in the anime.
These are just a few of the comparison images, and for way more check out the original article by Mipon! They also share more details about the locations and how you can find them. I always love seeing real life comparisons for anime, and big thanks to Mipon for sharing these from The Irregular at Magic High School! As for the anime, you can watch both seasons on Funimation (Season 1: sub, Visitor Arc: sub & dub).
In case you aren’t familiar with it, also read the synopsis:
Brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba have enrolled at the National Magic University Affiliated First High School. Miyuki will be starting as an elite Course 1 student whereas Tatsuya, because he’s stricken by a certain deficiency, will be a Course 2 student as an “irregular.” Admired by her fellow students, Miyuki worships only Tatsuya, causing him to draw the ire of the Course 1 students.
There is also an upcoming anime adaptation of the Miyuki spin-off The Honor Student at Magic High School. There is a short teaser from December 2020, and some news might come soon regarding it.
